The Worlds Oldest Pooch...

The worlds oldest pooch a Dachshund terrier cross who lives in Shropshire is 20 years and 8 months ..! His owners put his longevity down to the fact he eats a well balanced diet and enjoys a roast on Sunday

Paintings by dogs..!

A rescue pooch artist based in Maryland USA has been selling his abstract paintings for over a thousand pounds !. The proceeds of the poochs artwork goes to helping to run Shore Service Dogs centre..See link

Basil is also a bit of a 'Pawcasso' and he had no formal training !. Here is his latest creation, Title - 'Chasing the Cat out of the Garden'. ( see below )

Basil wondering whether he has overworked the brush strokes

This piece is about his own on- going personal angst with cats invading his garden. Basil likes working with yellows and greens and in a abstract style.

Basil's art might not fetch a thousand euroes , but any offers for maybe the price of a 20kg bag of dog food for one of the Tenerife rescue shelters...? The painting has been signed by the artist himself but he got a bit carried away so there are quite a few paw marks on this particular art creation..

I have now finished..!

How about a biscuit then, us artists need to eat..!

Any offers for Basil's artwork email nikki@tenerifedogs.com

Due primarily to the ‘credit crunch’ K9 and other refuges are feeling the effects of more cats and dogs needing to be re-homed. Please think carefully before taking on a pet – dogs and cats need to have their injections up to date, six months prior to leaving Tenerife. It is also very expensive to take them back to the UK. If our kennels are full please contact the police (Tel 112) in the district you reside (as a last resort).

K9 also have a Computer expert, 2 skilled seamstresses, a TV engineer and 2 experienced Dog Walkers/Sitters, who offer special prices to other K9 supporters for any work undertaken.

Free Darcy..!

A brave search and rescue pooch ( from Essex fire service) has been impounded after her return from an earthquake zone. Due to the quarantine laws in the UK Darcy the pooch has to remain locked up for 6 months as she was working in Indonesia.

Colchester MP Bob Russell and Angela Smith, MP for Basildon, have called on the government to review the law.

Pooches can be tested now for rabies and treated for the disease, so why the need for such a long stay in quarantine..

Free Darcy I say...!

Basil's visit to Poochies Hotel

I recently went up to check Poochies Hotel with Nikki. I possibly will be staying there when Nikki and Richard go on holiday, as the people who normally look after me might not be around. Pete gave us some directions to get to Poochies which were very good, though apparently I distracted Nikki when we got into El Rio and she missed the turning next to the church, but we turned around in the next village and we quickly found our way.

Poochies Hotel

When we arrived at Poochies we were greeted by Pete and he gave me a hug which was nice, friendly...

We went into his house which is where the small doggies stay, stunning views of the sea from his sunroom, and I could almost see the house where I live. Nikki had a cup of coffee with Pete and I had a bowl of water with ice -cubes in it, nice touch. Must remember to remind Nikki about giving me ice-cubes in my water bowl at home..

After Nikki had a chat with Pete, and I finished having a sniff around the house and jumping on the sofa etc.. well I might be staying there after-all got to check it out, we then all went outside. Poochies has kennels for the bigger dogs outside and an area for the doggies to runaround , plus a swimming pool and bath. Though if I stay I won't be using either swiming pool or bath as I don't like water..

Me trying out Pete's sofa, very comfy..

Me trying out the bath with a new pal ( no water in there thank goodness) the things I have to do for a photo shoot...!

Well if my usual carers are unable to look after me (they are very nice people, they play golf ), Poochies looks like a cool place to stay. Pete didn't mind me sitting on his sofa which is always a good sign..

Any mutts out there who need a place to stay when your owners go gallivanting off on holiday or if you are moving back to the UK and you need a long term stay while your owners sort out your passport then...

Ring or email Pete on 661099365 poochiespethotel@hotmail.com

Also if you have flight boxes to donate for the rescue doggies contact Pete..

Pete and one of his Rescue dogs, Pete also helps out Live Arico and is on the commitee

A sweet rescue pooch, though a liitle shy. If anybody is interested in giving her a loving home ring Pete

AktionTier - Dog Rescue Shelter

Aktiontier Dog Rescue Shelter

I recently visited Aktiontier Dog Rescue shelter and was shown around by the Director Marion Gonzalez. The Centre is run by Marion and three part-time staff and volunteers.
Marion Gonzalez (Director )
Aktiontier Tenerife was open in July 2006 on the site of the 'Institute for renewable energy', Granadilla . The shelter has fantastic facilites for the doggies, up to date kennels, which are cleaned every day by the kennel staff, a large area for the dogs to run around in with agility equipment and a modern surgery for when the veterinary surgeon visits.

The dogs are certainly very well looked after at Aktiontier.Marion believes in educating the public about animals and particularly children, Marion explains... " If we educate the next generation about respecting animals then there is a chance that as adults they will be responsible pet owners. We regularly invite school groups to the centre so they can learn about the dogs and how the rescue centre works." The Director also organises events like the up coming event on November 29th for children and adults ‘Fun charity walk with a dog' . ( More information about this fund raiser will be posted at a later date.

Many of the dogs in the centre are transported to Germany to loving homes, but since animals can't travel alone, aktiontier needs people to travel with the dogs and are continually looking for willing helpers. If you would like to volunteer at the shelter or accompany a dog to Germany, please ring or email. And don't throw away your old towels or blankets the doggies at Aktiontier would appreciate them.Centro de protección animal y medioambiental de Tenerife Poligono Industrial de Granadilla, Parque Eólico de ITER 38611 San Isidro Tenerife Tel.0034/ 922778630 teneriffa@aktiontier.

Please anybody who sends me a press release make sure all parties agree..

Tenerife dogs is not in the habit of telling porkie pies.

Uk Dog Trust on BBC News

This makes me barking mad its not enough that dogs are forced to fight but once injured are also put down in horrific ways. Check this clip of Clarissa Baldwin Chief Executive of the UK Dog Trust talking on this subject..
